Mentoring and Coaching

What's the Difference?

A mentor is a critical friend, someone who listens attentively and asks questions that are not simple to answer. Usually a mentor has more experience in the particular field or area and is able to pass on advice to the mentee.

Valerie has been mentoring creative entrepreneurs since 2007, helping them gain confidence both personally and professionally. Her mentees hail from diverse backgrounds: a photographer, a bookbinder, a children's theatre director, a romance novelist, a tea merchant, a writer, an actor, visual artists and several designers of different media.

Coaching differs in that it is more focused on specific tasks and goals. Valerie has been trained by Enterprise Development Group in CA, in Innovation Coaching, which employs a particular set of techniques. She combines this with action methods to enable clients to fully engage with processes that lead to sustainability of their businesses and a vision for the future.

Coaching clients have included: a sound designer, web designers, an opera singer, an arts and music production company and inventors of new products.
